The Cabinet Oak Project is juried art exhibition, auction and celebration event, hosted by the Friends of Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park.
More than 50 artists are working with pieces from a fallen branch of the Cabinet Oak, a 300-year-old tree adjacent to the historic “Texas White House” on the LBJ Ranch, to create pieces representing a wide range of artistic practices, genres, techniques and media. Pieces are available for viewing in a free public exhibition at the Hangar Visitor Center on the LBJ Ranch through May 31, and are available for purchase in an online auction (http://cop.cbo.io).
Cabinet Oak Project juror, Katie Robinson Edwards, PhD, Executive Director and Curator of the UMLAUF Sculpture Garden + Museum, will select seven pieces for special recognition. These seven pieces, plus one additional “People’s Choice” piece, will be auctioned live at the Cabinet Oak Celebration and Live Auction on May 6, 2023 at 6:00pm, hosted by Garrison Brothers Distillery in Hye, Texas.
Proceeds from the Cabinet Oak Project will directly benefit programs at the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park, including establishment of an artist-in-residence program and restoration of the Texas White House.
