2025 Most Endangered Places List
May 15, 2025
Preservation Texas has announced its 2025 list of Texas’s Most Endangered Places. This year’s list represents a diverse range of Texas heritage, including 19th-century homes and vernacular architecture, a Civil War site, a Reconstruction-era farm building, and more. It also reflects a wide geographic range—from the piney woods of East Texas and the agricultural communities of Central and South Texas to the western frontier and the fast-growing urban centers in the north—the list highlights both the architectural diversity and the regional challenges of historic preservation in our state.
Since launching our first Most Endangered Places list in 2004, Preservation Texas has brought critical attention to vulnerable historic sites across the state. As our organization has grown, so too has our capacity to support these places in more impactful ways. With this evolution in mind, the 2025 list will be the final edition in its current form.
Later this year, we will introduce a new endangered places program that goes beyond annual recognition. This initiative will provide customized training and project-specific assistance designed to meet the unique needs of communities and sites across Texas—delivering more targeted and sustained preservation outcomes.
Preservation Texas remains committed to advocating for endangered buildings, but our Public Policy programs will now take the lead in addressing urgent, short-term preservation challenges with greater agility. Through these efforts, we will continue to protect and celebrate the rich heritage that defines the Lone Star State! Visit preservationtexas.org/mep2025 to learn more and explore the list.
