Neale House

This house was built in 1850 by William Neale, a prominent Brownsville pioneer who served as mayor in 1858. It is likely the oldest wood-frame building in Brownsville. It was relocated by its previous owner, Texas Southmost College. It is now owned by the City of Brownsville, and possible relocation and restoration will make this landmark accessible to the public.

UPDATE - March 2026: At the request of UTRGV, the City of Brownsville is moving the historic Neale House to Linear Park, where it will be restored and interpreted as a community asset.

In 2024, the City of Brownsville hired Preservation Texas to prepare a Historic Structure Report for the Neale House. The report included extensive documentation and archival research on the property and provided recommendations to guide its relocation.
