Thank you for your interest in joining the Board of Directors of Preservation Texas. To assist you in making your decision, we are pleased to provide the following information about our organization and the responsibilities of board membership.

Founded in 1985, Preservation Texas is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing historic preservation across the state. We protect historic places through direct investment, stewardship, grantmaking, advocacy, and education. Our holistic approach to preservation includes not only buildings, but also cultural landscapes and material culture (furniture, pottery, art, books, etc.). Our mission is to empower Texans to preserve their cultural heritage and steward significant buildings, collections, and cultural landscapes to ensure their permanent protection.

Preservation Texas is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors whose members come from across the state. Our goal is to have a board that reflects the diversity of Texas. Board members are expected to attend quarterly meetings, held at historic locations throughout the state, make an annual financial commitment of at least $2,000, and participate on at least one committee. Committees meet monthly via video conference. Board members serve three-year terms and are eligible to serve two consecutive terms. In 2024, Preservation Texas published a Strategic Vision that will guide our work over the next decade. Through the implementation of five Strategic Directions, we will develop the professional and financial resources necessary to empower Texans to protect their cultural heritage while undertaking our own restoration projects across the state. An important part of this vision is our ongoing work at the College Hill campus in Tehuacana. In October 2025, Preservation Texas purchased the historic campus, which was the original home of Trinity University. The campus includes several significant historic buildings, including the monumental and endangered Texas Hall, which we plan to restore as our signature contribution to the Texas Bicentennial in 2036. At the same time, we are rehabilitating the campus to establish the Preservation Texas Institute, a nationally unique center for preservation education, training, and research.
