Preservation Training Workshop at Bonham State Park

November 14–15, 2025

Join Preservation Texas and the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) for an exclusive hands-on preservation training workshop at historic Bonham State Park, focusing on stone and timber construction and repair techniques.

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW:

This two-day workshop will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, November 14, and Saturday, November 15, with optional free lodging available at the park beginning Thursday, November 13.

Led by heritage trades experts Ron Siebler, Rick Wood, and Joseph Janota, participants will learn traditional methods of historic stone and timber construction, explore best practices for repair and restoration of historic materials, and gain hands-on experience repairing and replacing damaged materials on the park’s 1936 CCC-built Pump House.

This workshop will be documented by filmmaker Mark Birnbaum, whose footage will contribute to Preservation Texas’s growing collection of educational materials.

LODGING & MEALS:

The park has several barracks (pictured) available November 13-16 where participants may stay free of charge. Rooms may be private or shared depending on availability. All bathrooms are shared facilities.

Attendees may opt to book their own accommodations in nearby Bonham if they prefer. Participants are free to leave the park after 5:00 p.m. on Friday evening.

Lunch and dinner will be provided on Friday, and breakfast and lunch will be provided on Saturday for those who opt to stay at the park.

  • $150 for non-Preservation Texas members
