Preservation Texas Announces Heritage Education Award for Preservation Dallas

Austin, Texas — Preservation Texas, Inc. has announced that Preservation Dallas will receive its Heritage Education Award on February 18, 2016.  This Honor Award will be presented at a special ceremony at the historic State Theatre on Congress Avenue in Austin as part of the Preservation Texas 2016 Summit.

The Heritage Education Award recognizes outstanding heritage education programs and is open to individuals, organizations, curricula, programs or exhibits that promote historic preservation and local history.

The 2016 award recognizes the efforts of Preservation Dallas in producing its Architectural Styles of Dallas exhibit and booklet.  The goal of the exhibit was to educate the public about historic architecture to raise appreciation for historic buildings in Dallas.  With the booklet, that effort will continue and reach even more people with the hope that by learning more about historic architecture they will want be inspired to preserve and protect it.

“An understanding of the importance of historic architecture is essential for any successful preservation effort,” said Preservation Texas executive director Evan Thompson.  “Preservation Dallas’s first-rate exhibit and booklet presents much-needed information about the city’s historic architecture in an engaging way.”

Founded in 1985, Preservation Texas is a member-supported non-profit historic preservation advocacy and education organization based in Austin, Texas.  The organization does not receive any government funding.
