Experience Victorian High Life in Calvert
October 4, 2008, Calvert

An interactive Victorian experience awaits visitors to the Calvert 2008 Victorian Festival, a street fair, afternoon tea, and evening gala scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, in Calvert, Tex. Key events include a period-authentic afternoon tea served by costumed staff on the lawn of an estate (which features a grand neoclassical house), and an evening gala (a ball held in the city’s prized pavilion dating from 1895) where guests arrive at the torch-lit grounds by horse-drawn carriage. They will be entertained with English country dancing (like you’ve seen in the Jane Austen movies), a sumptuous dinner, a costume contest, and a raffle. A downtown street fair will feature, in addition to food and music attractions, costumed actors performing re-enactments and engaging passers-by. Lodgings are offered by local bed-and-breakfasts in notable Victorian homes.

For reservations and event pricing, visit the Calvert Chamber of Commerce Web site at www.calverttx.com, or call (979) 364-3940. Reservations for the Tea and Gala are required by September 20.
