The firm of Pettigrew & Worley designed this Art Deco Theater in Houston, which opened in 1939.

UPDATE 2022: The River Oaks theatre has been shuttered since March 2021 after the previous operator, Landmark Theatres, and then-owner Weingarten Realty couldn't come to an agreement on lease terms. A new lease, now formally between Kimco Realty, which purchased Weingarten Realty in 2021, and the River Oaks Theatre, Inc., will allow the cinema to be brought back to life in the coming months. Star Cinema Grill, which operates nine dine-in movie theaters around Houston and Illinois, will give the historic Art Deco movie house a second wind.
