Polley Mansion aka “Whitehall”

In 1847, this house was built by Joseph Polley (1795-1869), one of the "Old 300" settlers of Stephen F. Austin, and the first Austin colony sheriff. From Fort Bend and Austin counties, Polley at last settled here where he had cattle herds called largest in Texas. The house was built of locally quarried limestone with framing of Bandera Cypress. This iconic pre-civil war landmark awaits restoration so that the public can be welcomed once again into this former museum.
In 2005, the Polley Association was created for the purpose of bringing together descendants of Joseph Henry Polley and family history enthusiasts to preserve the legacy of the Polley family of Wilson County.
UPDATE: The Polley Mansion aka Whitehall has been restored by Keith and Robin Muschalek with help from members of the community and donations.
